The weather cooperated nicely to make a perfect day to host the 6th annual Clayton Club Chili Cook-Off. 17 contestants arrived with their signature chili dishes and judging began at 12:00 high. Judging this year were Clayton Pioneer co-owner Bob Steiner, Police Chief Dan Lawrence, City Council members Julie Pierce and Howard Gellar and Assistant City Manager Laura Hoffmeister.
First Prize of $300 was awarded to Cal "Hillbilly" Campbell, a first-time competitor, who dazzled everyone with his classic chili. Second Place and $200 was awarded to Mark McCullah. A third place tie was awarded to Joe Johnson and John Barger who eached receive $100.
Following the award ceremony the crowd numbering more than 100 people were unleashed on the food line and continued to eat until every crockpot was dry.
